Savoury Granola Snack

Savoury Granola Snack

In search of healthy savoury snacks for me and my toddler, I was inspired to make this savoury version of a granola. It uses store cupboard ingredients and nutritional yeast flakes (which I came across in my new year’s cupboard cleaning mission) to make a snack that can be nibbled on at any time of day. It is highly nutritious and pleased both me and my little lady. Continue reading

Mini No-Cook Christmas Puddings

Mini No-Cook Christmas Puddings

Using left-over ingredients from my Christmas pudding, these mini treats are a ‘healthier’ festive treat. They are extremely quick to make, with no added sugar and no cooking required. The best bit is that your little people will love to help make, decorate/ sabotage, and eat these treats. Happy Christmas! Continue reading

Maharagwe (Kenyan Red Beans)

Maharagwe (Kenyan Red Beans)

Bringing a bit of colour and warmth to the dark winter days, this African inspired dish is a recipe that I picked up during our recent travels to Kenya. First tasted on the coast, this Swahili dish uses coconut water and simple spices to create a wholesome and tasty meal that can be eaten with or without an ocean view (see photos…) Continue reading

Green Bean and Kabuki Pea Bredie

Green Bean and Kabuki Pea Bredie

After a summer of tardy blogging, I’d like to win you over with this quirky and flavoursome Bredie. In this recipe, the kabuki pea (aka marrowfat pea) and green bean join forces in a not-so-typical South African stew (called a Bredie). To my surprise, the dish went down a storm in my family. Plus, I have a confession to make… Continue reading

Carrot Popsicles

Carrot Popsicles

Taking advantage of small children’s obsession with ice cream, I came up with these carrot popsicles as a sweet, sticky and healthy imitation of an ice lolly. Also known as ‘braised carrots on a stick’, these popsicles are quick to prepare and bring a bit of fun to vegetable eating. What happened when I served these to my daughter (and her stuffed animal friends)?… Continue reading

Simple Strawberry and Vanilla Mousse

Simple Strawberry and Vanilla Mousse

The little lady and I are currently enjoying the wonders of seasonal English strawberries- yum! When the strawberries start to go a bit too squidgy for our liking, then this is one of the recipes that I make. This ‘strawbree mousse’ is brilliant, especially for kids, because: 1) it is highly nutritious , 2) it’s simple to make and can be frozen, and 3) my two year old just loves to eat it. Date Slice

Date Slice

Here is a version of the classic date slice: juicy dates sandwiched between two layers of oaty, buttery crumble but without refined sugar and with added linseed goodness. This slice is a wholesome treat to delight the little people and other dried fruit enthusiasts. Continue reading
