Chocolate and Prune Mousse

A great alternative to yoghurt, this dessert is nutritious whilst your little one’s will think it’s a special treat! This made about 8 servings.

  • 100g prunes
  • 10 g dark chocolate (70%)
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 200 g tofu

  1. Chop the prunes and put in a saucepan with 100ml water. Simmer for around 15-20 minutes until the prunes are soft and pulpy (see photo below).
  2. Remove from the heat and add the chocolate, maple syrup and cocoa powder. Mix together well and leave to cool for 5 minutes.
  3. Transfer prune mixture into a food processor and blend until smooth.
  4. Add the tofu to the prune and chocolate mixture. Blend again until smooth and well mixed.
  5. It can be served straight away but it is better if chilled for at least 30 minutes.

  • Nutritional Highlights: Tofu is a good source of protein, iron, and calcium. Prunes are a good source of fibre and Vitamin K.
  • A-L age and rating: First served at 17 months. A-L loved this pudding but as it is quite rich, I served modest amounts.
  • Freezer friendly? Yes.
  • Adult adaption: Simmer the prunes with cognac or brandy.

This is the first of many of your recipes I plan to try. Daniel has consumed more of it than I planned to give him but he insisted he have some more! I’ve frozen some pots of it for another day.
